**Horseshoe Bottom Presbyterian** **Church and Cemetery** (not to be confused with the nearby [**Horseshoe Bottom Baptist Church and Cemetery**](https://monongapedia.pikapod.net/books/places-of-worship/page/horseshoe-baptist-church-and-cemetery)) was the predecessor to the First Presbyterian Church, Monongahela. ##### Horseshoe Bottom Presbyterian Church The church was located 2 1/2 miles outside of The City of Monongahela on Coyle Curtain Road in Carroll Township on a farm owned by Simon Wilson. The church building was demolished but the adjoining church cemetery still exists and is one of the oldest in the Monongahela area. The site of the church building is marked by an approximately 6' high stone memorial to which a bronze tablet is attached that reads: > Presbyterian Church founded here in 1785, Organization transferred to Monongahela City in 1807 and the church is > now known as the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela City. It is located on Rt. 837 in Carroll Township, Pa. about 500 ft from the intersection of Rt. 88 and Rt. 837. The church building no longer exists, but the cemetery remains. Located on the site is a historical marker erected in 1974 by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) that reads: > The Horseshoe Baptist Church was built first in 1790 on land formerly owned by Abraham Frye. In 1810 a brick church replaced the original log structure, and for seventy years the members worshipped here. In 1880 that church was torn down and members joined Monongahela Baptists. The cemetery which adjoined the church has been preserved in its original form. A Revolutionary War soldier, Captain George Grant, his wife Mary Worth, their families, Rabe, Colvin, Frye, Carson, Fisher, and many others whose stones have been destroyed are buried here.
